Guys, we all know that keeping yourself and your surroundings clean has always been essential to ward all kind of bacteria and germs. Here we are going to discuss some tips to clean your fruits and vegetables.A healthy body with strong immunity is the first line of defense to protect oneself against the ongoing pandemic.
Friends, we can use disinfectant to wash the floor & other chemical to keep ourself safe, but what about vegetables and fruits that you bring from market? So let’s go for mystery tour……
Here I am sharing the FASSI guideline, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India(FASSI). Recently posted some guideline on how to keep your fruits and vegetables clean at this time. Here are 5 things that you must follow :
1.Do not put the fruits & vegetables bought from vendors immediately in the refrigerator. Keep them within the packet itself in an isolated place.
2.Put the vegetables and fruits in a big container and wash them thoroughly with water.
3.Always clean with them with potable or clean drinking water.
4.Disinfectants, cleaning wipe or soap should not be used on fresh produce.
5.After cleaning the fruits and vegetables properly,put them in the correct places. The one required to be refrigerated in the refrigerator and the rest at room temperature in baskets or racks.
General tips for washing vegetables and fruits:
- Most fresh fruit and vegetables have natural protective coating. Before you are ready to eat or cook veggies and fruits under speedy water.
- Wash vegetables and fruit is under running water which is the best way to clean them.
- You don’t need special products, soaps or vinegar.
Before you start -wash your hands
For at least 20 seconds wash your hands with hot water and soap before and after handling fresh produce.
Washing leafy green vegetables
Examples of leafy green are kale, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, fenugreek etc.
- Wash all green leafy vegetables ,including Pre-bagged greens under cold running tap water.
- For leafy vegetables,such as lettuce and cabbage,remove the outer leaves first. Throw away any wilted or discolored leaves.
- For more effectiveness rinse leafy vegetables in a colander,drain (or use a salad spinner) and pat dry with a paper towel or tea towel.
- Store in a clean paper towels or a tea towel in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge. Use within a week.
Washing fruit and vegetables with rind.
Examples of Food with a rind are contaloupes, oranges, mango, melons, pineapples, carrots, potatoes and squash.
- The reason you wash fruit and vegetables with a rind is because this prevent bacteria on the rind or peel from going into the food when you slice it.
- Use a soft ,clean produce brush to scrub vegetables and fruits under running water then pat dry.
The Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic is changing the way we eat and make food .Here is I am going to share one of the simplest trick to clean vegetables and fruits during coronavirus outbreak.
soaking fruits and vegetables in a baking soda solution is the most effective way to remove germs, bacteria, pesticides etc. Without peeling them. Many of us think of baking soda as just an ingredient for baking or something that helps to keep our refrigerator odor-free but also incredible good for your health and your entire home too. Baking soda is super effective and helpful in all sort of cleansing emergencies including washing vegetables and fruits to prevent covid-19 infection.
So guys in this current scenario you do not know what brings virus to your house and to your family so please spend 10-15 minutes only and make your vegetables and fruits free from this virus.
No matter from where you buy the vegetables & fruits whether it is an air conditioned supermarket or from the street hawkers ,stalls etc you can never be sure that they are free from germ.
